Backup and restore
Back up your vocabulary, study history and settings to a single .realdict file, and restore it later.
What a backup includes
- Vocabulary
- Review history (FSRS)
- Lookup history
- Settings
- Dictionary order
What it leaves out
- Dictionary files
- Your license
- API keys (Azure, DeepL and others)
A backup can’t bring back your dictionaries. If the Mac you restore to doesn’t have them, add the dictionary files again and re-enter any keys you need.
Restoring
When you restore a .realdict file, choose one of two ways.
- Merge: keeps your current data and adds what is in the backup.
- Replace: replaces your current data with the backup. Before replacing, RealDict first saves your current data as a safety backup.
How this differs from sync
Sync keeps your vocabulary in step across Macs; a backup saves the current state as one file. See Sync for the sync options.
Backup files are saved where you choose. See the privacy policy for details.
